The first half of 2005 is littered with shows around St Andrews and some less than memorable expeditions to Dundee, Edinburgh and Perth. The capital gig immediately fell into the worst gig of their lives category.
The Kids return to Glasgow to record again with "Big George", laying down "Tony Hancock", "Last Time, This Time" and "Sure" with the additional instrumentation of Emily Taylor on violin. The results are mixed and (unbeknownst to anyone at the time) will never be released. Kate, David and Dan graduated from University and move to Cellardyke, Galway and Edinburgh respectively. Rose has the audacity to remain in St Andrews for a further year to finish her course.
After a summer working in Ireland, David moves to Edinburgh to join Dan. Kid Canaveral restart their live career headlining the tiny Nektar venue on the Cowgate. It's an interesting show. Playing heavier material than previously, the crowd receive it well, but something isn't quite right. Press attention from local newspapers leads to some better gigs and the band try out some new material.
Kid Canaveral's first Glasgow show sees them playing the legendary (to them and quite a few others I could name) 13th Note Cafe with the Red Well and Popup. The show is favourably reviewed by a couple of blogs and indie magazines and sees the band strike a friendship with the lads and lass from Popup. Further gigs around the central belt of Scotland and the victory of track "Tony Hancock" on BBC Radio 1's session in Scotland (for the maximum allowed three weeks, who was texting!?) see the band through to the Star FM radio session that ends the year for them.
